Basic information】Female, 23 years old
Disease Type】Old scar
Hospital】Harbin Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Date of consultation】March 2022
Treatment Plan】Topical medication (human-like collagen scar repair silicone gel)
Treatment Period】30 days for outpatient
Effectiveness】Significant fading of white scars on the skin surface
I. Initial consultation
The patient is a 23-year-old girl who reported that two scars were left on her arms due to trauma, which did not fade for many years. On examination, the patient had white hyperplastic changes on the skin surface between the right arm, elbow and elbow fossa, about 3 cm in length, and a white linear hyperplasia of about 2 cm in length could be seen on the back of the right palm of the patient’s hand. The patient’s condition was clear and the physical symptoms were typical, which was consistent with the diagnosis of scarring.

II. Treatment history
After communication with the patient, it was decided to give topical treatment with human collagen-like scar repair silicone gel. This drug contains human-like collagen, which can increase the hydration of the skin and improve the texture of the skin. In addition, the drug also contains silicon, which can rearrange the local skin cells and play a certain degree of scar fading effect. After understanding how to use the medication, the patient said that he must use the medication on time.
III. Treatment effect
After 30 days of topical application, the patient returned by phone and said that the texture of the skin surface had improved significantly and the dryness of the skin had decreased after 7 days of medication, but the scar did not fade significantly immediately. At 15 days of administration, the local skin scar raised sensation slightly improved, but the length did not disappear. By the date of the phone call, the patient indicated that the length of the white scar had shortened and faded significantly, and although the scar still existed, he was very satisfied. We instructed the patient to continue using the medication and to follow up if there were any problems.
IV. Notes
I am glad that after a series of treatments, the patient’s scar appeared to fade significantly. However, since the treatment of scar is not overnight, patients still need to pay attention to avoid rubbing the scar area for a long time or using hard objects for stimulation in daily life, so as to avoid the overgrowth of connective tissue below the scar to enlarge the scar area and affect the treatment effect. In addition, patients should take the medication regularly and should not increase or decrease the dosage at their own discretion. Also, when applying the medication, pay attention to rubbing the cream gently to promote the absorption of the medication in order to improve the efficacy.
V. Personal Insight
Scarring is the same as scarring, which is a change caused by the disorderly arrangement of connective tissue inside the skin. If you want to remove the scar, you should treat it as early as possible when it is formed, so that the treatment period can be shortened and the treatment effect can be improved. After scar formation, you can choose to treat it with topical creams containing silicon, or you can choose to use gold RF microneedle or CO2 fractional laser. In this case, the patient was treated with topical creams to remove the scar. The effectiveness of topical creams for scar treatment exists, but they are usually not comparable to gold RF microneedling or CO2 fractional laser, so the efficacy is usually slow and adequate communication with the patient is required before treatment.
