The symptoms of scurvy, i.e. vitamin C deficiency, mainly include bleeding symptoms and bone and joint symptoms, which may be accompanied by other systemic symptoms such as fatigue.
1. Bleeding symptoms: it is often manifested as recurrent bleeding of the gums, nosebleed, and petechiae and ecchymosis of the skin. At the same time, hyperkeratosis of hair follicles and peripheral bleeding may occur.
2. Bone and joint symptoms: there may be muscle pain in the joint attachments, hip abduction, knee semi-flexion, foot external rotation and other symptoms. Some pediatric patients may have pseudoparalysis and swelling of the lower limbs due to subperiosteal hemorrhage.
3. Other systemic symptoms: including self-conscious tiredness, fatigue, depression, anorexia, malnutrition and so on.
