Many patients who are diagnosed with prostate cancer ask their doctors if there are any effective medications for prostate cancer. In fact, this question is difficult to answer whether there is or is not, due to the complexity of prostate cancer.
Early stage prostate cancer, if the surgical indication for radical prostate cancer is met, then radical prostate cancer surgery should be done to completely remove the tumor and achieve radical cure.
If radical prostate cancer surgery is not indicated, there is no need to worry too much because prostate cancer is often an androgen-dependent tumor at the beginning, and treatment can be achieved with total androgen blockade.
The debulking treatment that we tend to use is divided into 2 types: surgical debulking and pharmacological debulking:
- Surgical debridement is the removal of both testicles;
- Medical debulking is the regular subcutaneous injection of a luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone analogue.
Combined with oral androgen receptor blockers to achieve alloandrogen blockade to treat these prostate cancer patients.
After prostate cancer patients have been treated for a period of time, there is a shift to androgen resistance. This time period ranges from six months to a year for some patients to 10 years for others who are still hormonally effective, often related to how early the patient was found and the type of pathology. After androgen resistance, we can also treat with abiraterone, and we can also treat with radiation and chemotherapy, but none of them are as effective as androgen blockade therapy.
So, don’t be superstitious about potent drugs, just get regular treatment under professional medical supervision.
