The recovery process for palatoplasty takes about 2 weeks. Palatopharyngoplasty is a common surgical procedure for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea hypoventilation syndrome. It is usually performed by removing the bilateral enlarged tonsils as well as the redundant palatal arch and soft palate mucosa, then enlarging the surgical cavity and routinely preventing infection and stopping bleeding with medication after surgery. After surgery, painful symptoms may occur due to swelling of the pharynx, which is most obvious at 3-4 days after surgery and will gradually ease afterwards, and the pseudomembrane will begin to fall off about 2 weeks after surgery. During this recovery process, one should avoid overly hard diet, reduce strenuous activities and hot baths to avoid the possibility of late postoperative bleeding.
