The methods to reduce swelling and pain of contusion include cold compresses, hot compresses, immobilization with support, medication, etc., which are conducive to relieving the symptoms.
1. Cold compress: in the early stage of contusion, i.e. within 72 hours after the injury, you can use ice cubes, ice packs and other cooler items to apply local cold compresses. It can reduce the degree of local swelling, reduce pain, and help prevent further development of the condition. Avoid causing frostbite, cold compress time should not be too long.
2. Hot compresses: In 5-7 days or even 1-2 weeks after the injury, hot towels, hot water bags and other hot items can be used to apply hot compresses to the contusion site to promote local blood circulation, which is conducive to eliminating swelling and relieving symptoms.
3. Fixation with support: If the local swelling is obvious after contusion, attention should be paid to rest, and a support can be used for immobilization. Local immobilization can reduce joint mobility and help improve blood circulation. On the basis of immobilization, attention should be paid to elevate the affected area and higher than the heart, which is conducive to blood return and further eliminate swelling.
4. Medication: Oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as celecoxib, etoricoxib and other drugs, can be used to help relieve pain. You can also apply topical flurbiprofen gel paste, losoprofen sodium paste and other drugs on the surface of the contusion, which is favorable to eliminate swelling.
All of the above medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor, avoid self-medication.
