Can you die suddenly if you don’t sleep overnight?

Not sleeping overnight will not cause sudden death. The cause of sudden death is usually heart-related, and most patients suffer from fatal arrhythmias or have heart disease. Patients with heart disease should try to avoid staying up all night, and if they have insomnia, they should be treated promptly. Not sleeping all night alone will not induce arrhythmia, but if insomnia is chronic, it will cause autonomic dysfunction, sometimes with increased cardiac sympathetic activity and decreased parasympathetic activity, which may induce various types of arrhythmias, and serious cases may lead to adverse consequences. Patients with insomnia, if they have panic attacks, palpitations, throat discomfort, or have obvious symptoms of chest tightness, shortness of breath, or angina pectoris, they need to promptly visit the neurology or cardiology departments for relevant examinations to exclude any arrhythmia, as well as organic heart diseases, and if necessary, for symptomatic treatment.
