Giant cell prostatitis shall mostly refer to non-specific granulomatous prostatitis also known as chronic fibrous giant cell prostatitis, histiocytophagocytic verrucous hyperplasia, eosinophilic granulomatous prostatitis, which is mostly associated with obstruction of prostatic ducts, manifested by fever, urinary tract irritation symptoms and so on. Giant cell prostatitis shall refer to chronic fibrous giant cell prostatitis, also known as non-specific granulomatous prostatitis, which is often secondary to recent urinary tract infections, and is associated with foreign body reaction and obstruction of the prostatic duct. Non-specific granulomatous prostatitis often manifests as frequent urination, urinary urgency, painful urination, fever, chills, dysuria, urinary retention, and a nodular or diffusely swollen and hardened prostate that can be palpated on rectal examination. Generally, antibiotics such as levofloxacin, alpha-blockers such as terazosin hydrochloride and other medications can be taken for conservative treatment, and surgical treatment such as transurethral resection of the prostate can be performed if necessary.
