Will the elderly die from untreated hydrocephalus?

If hydrocephalus in the elderly is left untreated and allowed to develop, the hydrocephalus will become more and more pronounced and the intracranial pressure will continue to increase. As the condition progresses, the intracranial pressure will increase to a very serious degree, and the patient will show severe headache, vomiting, or even coma and death, so untreated hydrocephalus in the elderly will result in death. Hydrocephalus is the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricular system due to the obstruction of the cerebrospinal fluid circulation pathway, or cerebrospinal fluid overproduction or absorption obstruction, leading to the enlargement of the ventricles, increased cranial pressure and other manifestations. Patients often show symptoms such as headache, vomiting, limb weakness, fecal incontinence and even coma. In the elderly, due to brain atrophy, the symptoms of increased intracranial pressure are often not obvious, and patients often show symptoms such as dementia, memory loss, and fecal incontinence.
