What is the role of tranquilizing hypnotic anxiolytics in pain management?

Most pain patients are accompanied by depression, anxiety, insomnia and other symptoms, and their symptoms do not disappear with the relief of pain after effective treatment, so in pain treatment, antidepressant, anxiolytic and sedative-hypnotic drugs should be added at the right time to improve patients’ mental symptoms and achieve the purpose of analgesia. Clinical classification of sedative-hypnotic and anxiolytic drugs into: (1) tranquilizers, i.e. benzodiazepines, have sedative, amnesic, anxiolytic and myorelaxant effects, so they are commonly used in patients with acute pain with anxiety, myospasm or insomnia. (2) phenothiazines and butylphenols, such as chlorpromazine, promethazine and haloperidol, have a more obvious central nervous system depressant effect, and can enhance the effect of hypnotic, analgesic and narcotic drugs. The above drugs can be used in the treatment of chronic pain, neuropathic pain and cancer pain.
