Causes of Sudden Deafness

The etiology of sudden deafness is unknown, and there are more possible causes, such as vascular disease, infection, and toxic deafness.
1. Vascular disease: The main blood vessel supplying the inner ear is the labyrinthine artery. When there is a short period of ischemia of the blood vessels in the inner ear, such as thrombosis, hemorrhage, or vasospasm, a sudden onset of hearing loss may occur.
2. Infection: Some patients have a history of colds and viral infections, such as herpes virus, chicken pox, influenza virus, mumps virus, etc., which lead to viral neuritis or cochleitis, and symptoms related to sudden deafness.
3. Toxic deafness: common drugs such as streptomycin, gentamicin, antitumor drugs (such as cisplatin, etc.) may cause sudden deafness.
Therefore, sudden deafness is recommended to consult a doctor in time to clarify the cause of the disease and carry out targeted treatment.
