Multiple rib fractures are a relatively serious injury. CT of the lungs and 3D reconstruction of the ribs are improved to accurately determine the extent and number of rib fractures and the presence or absence of combined hemopneumothorax. A chest strap is also given to help reduce local pain. If multiple rib fractures are combined with severe hemopneumothorax, closed thoracic drainage needs to be considered, and if closed thoracic drainage does not provide good recovery, open thoracotomy is required if necessary. If it is just a simple rib fracture without combined hemopneumothorax, it can usually be treated conservatively with a chest strap to girdle the chest while giving painkillers, such as lofenozide extended-release tablets for pain relief. Intensive care is provided to encourage the patient to cough to avoid complications such as lung infection. It takes more than three months to recover from a rib fracture, and the resting time must be sufficient to avoid premature exertion that may affect the healing of the fracture.
