Mandibular arthritis is treated with general treatment, medication, physical therapy or surgery depending on the severity of the condition.
1. General treatment: eat soft food, avoid opening the mouth too wide, avoid eating hard food, keep the upper and lower teeth apart, let the local muscles get relaxed. Localized hot and wet compresses can be applied to relax the local muscles.
2. Medications: non-steroidal painkillers such as ibuprofen extended-release capsules or nimesulide dispersible tablets to reduce local pain. Skeletal muscle relaxants such as Cloxazone should be used. The use of medication should be in accordance with medical advice.
3. Physiotherapy: localized laser treatment or infrared physical therapy. Localized massage.
4. Surgery: arthroscopic surgery to repair the cartilage and reset the articular cartilage disk.
Mandibular arthritis can be treated conservatively or surgically according to the degree of the lesion.
