Lumps under the skin may be associated with sebaceous cysts, lipomas, skin boils, fibromas and lymphadenitis.
1. Sebaceous cysts: a cystic mass formed when the sebaceous gland ducts are blocked for various reasons and the sebum secretion cannot be discharged normally, thus being trapped in the ducts, usually adhering to the surrounding tissues and the bottom of the mass can be moved.
2. Lipoma: a benign tumor formed by abnormalities of local fat metabolism, locally mobile, with no adhesion to the surrounding tissues.
3. Skin boil: when acute infection occurs in the deep surrounding tissues of hair follicles, a kind of lump with pain can be formed under the skin.
4. Fibroma: a benign tumor caused by focal proliferation of fibroblasts or histiocytes, which can occur naturally or after trauma, manifested as a slow-growing hemispherical nodule under the skin, fleshy skin color or brown color, often single, usually asymptomatic.
5. Lymphadenitis: Infection of the tissues surrounding the lymph nodes or infection of the lymph nodes themselves can cause enlargement of the lymph nodes under the skin as well as pain.
There may be other reasons for the lumps under the skin, so it is recommended that patients go to the hospital to clarify the cause and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
