Fangfeng Tongsheng San cannot cure shingles. Herpes zoster belongs to the category of snake sores in Chinese medicine, and is usually treated with the addition and subtraction of Dampness Removing and Stomach Ling Tang, the addition and subtraction of Taohong Four Substances Tang and Chaihu Hepatophoresan, and the addition and subtraction of Longdian Diarrhea and Liver Tang with Banlangen, Ziqi, and Yuanhuosuo.
Fangfeng Tongsheng San can relieve heat through the bowels, relieve the surface and wind. It is generally used in cases of solidity of both the surface and the interior, and congestion of wind-heat. It can be used to treat dizziness, heat and cold, eye redness and pain, dry mouth and bitter taste, chest and epigastric congestion (chest and abdomen feeling fullness and stuffiness), constipation, astringent and reddish urine, and can also be used for swelling and poisonous sores, hemorrhoids, fistulas and intestinal winds, addictive rashes, and so on.
Avoid smoking, alcohol, spicy, greasy, fish, shrimp and seafood during the period of taking the medicine. It is not advisable to take tonic Chinese medicine at the same time during the period of taking the medicine.
