What’s the difference between Irbesartan and Timosartan?

Irbesartan Tablets and Timosartan Tablets are both angiotensin II receptor antagonists, belonging to the same class of antihypertensive drugs, although there are some differences in the indications of these two drugs. Irbesartan tablets can be used for the treatment of primary hypertension, combined with hypertension in type 2 diabetic nephropathy. Timosartan tablets are mainly aimed at the treatment of essential hypertension, applicable to patients aged 55 years and above who have a high risk of serious cardiovascular events and cannot receive angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor treatment, can reduce the incidence of various cardiovascular diseases, such as angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease and so on. Adverse effects of both drugs include dizziness, flushing, skeletal muscle damage, and nausea; rare adverse effects include upright hypotension, dyspepsia, and diarrhea, and are contraindicated in drug-allergic individuals, and nursing mothers. Irbesartan should not be used in combination with aliskiren in patients with diabetes mellitus or moderately severe renal impairment (GFR less than 60 ml/min/1.73m2). Therefore, in the process of the use of these two drugs, patients should strictly follow the arrangements of the doctor, never self-medication.
