Self-testing for rectus abdominis muscle separation

Rectus abdominis separation can be self-tested by finger measurement as follows. 1. Lie on the bed in the supine position with the legs bent at the knees, exposing the abdomen. Place the left hand behind the head for support and place the palm surface of the right hand in the center of the abdomen. 2. Lift the head and shoulders away from the bed, similar to sit-ups, but do not sit completely straight, the angle of the upper body and the bed to maintain 30 to 45 degrees. 3. At this time, the right hand can feel the abdominal muscles contraction hard, can be four fingers together in the abdomen around the midline to explore, to find the depression, feel both sides of the rectus abdominis muscle to the middle of the finger squeeze, the part is the gap between the two sides of the rectus abdominis muscle. If you do not feel the squeeze, move your fingers to both sides, find the contracted hard muscles on both sides, and measure the distance between the rectus abdominis muscles on both sides. 4. Place the fingertips of the right hand horizontally and probe into the gap between the rectus abdominis muscles. The distance between the rectus abdominis muscles on both sides of the body is within one finger for normal people, and within two fingers for menstruating women; if it is greater than two fingers, systematic treatment is required, which can be improved through reasonable exercise or surgery. It is recommended that patients be diagnosed under the guidance of a doctor and not to make blind judgments on their own to avoid adverse consequences.
