What does balloon dilatation mean

Balloon dilatation is an interventional procedure in which a balloon is delivered to a predetermined site for dilation. Clinically, balloon dilatation can be categorized into intracoronary balloon dilatation, such as coronary artery stenosis, the coronary balloon will be sent to the stenosis site, and the balloon will be held up after the pressure is exerted, so as to achieve the dilatation of the local blood vessels and alleviate the effect of local blood vessel stenosis. There is also mitral valve balloon dilatation, for example, in the case of mitral valve stenosis, the mitral valve balloon is delivered to the mitral valve, and after the balloon is activated, it can tear off the adherent narrowed mitral valve leaflets to achieve the purpose of dilating the mitral valve orifice. Balloon dilatation of the pulmonary artery also involves placing a balloon catheter into the narrowed pulmonary artery to dilate the balloon.
