How soon can I walk with a plate removed from a tibial plateau fracture?

After the plate is removed from a tibial plateau fracture, you can usually walk within a week or so, but you cannot put excessive weight on the tibia or play strenuous sports until about six months before you can participate in regular sports. This is because the tibial plateau fracture is internally fixed with a plate, and the fracture heals in about three months, and the plate is removed in about one year. After the plate is removed, there will be local residual nail holes and there will be bone loss in the area covered by the plate, so the bone strength will decrease. In a week or so, the local swelling and pain will be relieved, and the patient can walk normally and complete the basic life, but cannot bear excessive weight, otherwise it will lead to local fracture again, which is not conducive to recovery. In about six months, the bone strength will be completely restored to normal level, and only then the patient can do moderate exercise.
