Patients with gallstones can take Blood Lipids Kang and it is recommended to use it under doctor’s supervision. Blood Lipid Kang is a proprietary Chinese medicine composed of red yeast, which has the efficacy of resolving turbidity and lowering fat (clearing the body of impurities and reducing excess fat), removing dampness and expelling phlegm, activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis, invigorating the spleen and eliminating food, and can be used in the treatment of hyperlipidemia caused by phlegm obstruction and blood stagnation, which is manifested as shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness, headache, tightness in the chest, abdominal distension, and poor appetite and natriuresis (lack of appetite and decreased food intake), and so on. This drug can also be used as adjuvant treatment for cardiovascular diseases caused by hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis. The drug is generally well tolerated and most side effects are mild and transient. Common adverse reactions are gastrointestinal discomfort, such as stomach pain, abdominal distension and heartburn. Occasionally, it may cause reversible elevation of serum aminotransferase and creatine phosphokinase. Rarely weakness, dry mouth, dizziness, headache, myalgia, rash, gallbladder pain, swelling, conjunctival congestion, and urinary tract irritation. This medication should not be used in patients with active hepatitis or hypersensitivity to the product. No studies have been done to show that patients with gallstones should not take Blood Lipitor.
