Is 140/90 considered high blood pressure or not?

If the blood pressure reaches 140/90mmHg on a non-same day and on at least three correct measurements, hypertension can be diagnosed, but 140/90mmHg is classified as first-degree hypertension. The Chinese version of the hypertension diagnostic criteria systolic blood pressure ≥ 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure ≥ 90 mmHg can be diagnosed as hypertension, but the severity should also be judged according to the patient’s baseline blood pressure. If the blood pressure reaches 140/90 mmHg when measured at least three times on different days using the correct measurement method, it can be diagnosed as mild hypertension, i.e., hypertension class I. Patients are advised to improve their lifestyle with a low-salt diet, proper exercise, weight control, smoking and alcohol cessation, and to consult their doctor for specific treatment measures.
