Normal range of LDL cholesterol

The normal range for LDL cholesterol should be less than 3.4 mmol/L, but each hospital may use different kits and the standard range may vary to a greater or lesser extent. Some hospitals specify that the normal range for LDL cholesterol should be less than 3.1 mmol/L, but the latest version, the 9th edition of Internal Medicine, states that the appropriate level of LDL cholesterol should be less than 3.4 mmol/L and the ideal level should be less than 2.6 mmol/L. The borderline elevated range for LDL cholesterol is 3.4- 4.09 mmol/L. To determine whether a patient has elevated LDL cholesterol, the range is greater than or equal to 4.1 mmol/L.
