How does Chinese medicine treat ADHD?

ADHD can be categorized as “dirty dryness” and “restlessness” in Chinese medicine, which can be divided into heart-liver fire, phlegm-fire internal disturbance (the body is disturbed by phlegm and fire), liver-kidney yin deficiency, and heart-spleen deficiency. It can be treated with An Shen Ding Zhi Ling, Huang Lian Wen Bile Tang, Gui Spleen Tang and so on.
1. Excessive fire in the heart and liver, hyperactivity and restlessness, impulsive and capricious, impatience and irritability, lack of concentration, recklessness, or being a nuisance, constipation, yellowish urine, red tongue or red tip of the tongue, thin or yellowish moss, and stringy or numberless pulse. It can be treated with the addition or subtraction of Tranquilizing Spirit and Determining Spirit.
2. Internal disturbance of phlegm-fire, hyperactivity and talkativeness, restlessness, impulsive capriciousness, difficulty in restraining, changeable interests, irritable heat in the chest (irritable and stuffy heat), insomnia, poor appetite and bitterness, constipation and urinary redness, with a red tongue, yellowish greasy moss and a slippery pulse. Treat with Huang Lian Wen Bile Tang plus subtractions.
3. Yin deficiency of the liver and kidney, hyperactivity and difficult to be quiet, impatience and irritability, impulsive and capricious, difficult to self-control, laxity of the mind, or five heart-heat (heat in the heart of the hands and feet, and consciously hot in the heart and chest), night sweating (sweating abnormally after going to sleep, and sweating stops after waking up), with a red tongue, little moss, and a thin stringy pulse. Treat with Qi Ju Di Huang Wan plus reduction.
It can be treated with GuiSen Tang.
