The incidence of gallstones increases with age. The etiologic factors leading to gallstones in 70-year-olds are diverse and may be related to obesity, high-fat diets, and long-term parenteral nutrition. The causes of gallstones are very complex and are related to a variety of factors. For example, residents of certain regions and races, obesity, high-fat diet, long-term parenteral nutrition, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, after gastrectomy or gastrointestinal anastomosis, cirrhosis of the liver, hemolytic anemia and so on. Most of the patients with gallstones do not have any symptoms, and a small number of patients may have vague pain in the right upper abdomen, fullness, biliary colic and other symptoms after eating fatty foods. Elderly patients who are examined for gallstones should go to the hospital in time and choose the appropriate treatment plan after a comprehensive evaluation by the doctor.
