Stroke prevention in the elderly

Love meat, do not eat vegetables, when the heart wind stalk you, 64-year-old Liu granny usually hard body, good appetite, love to eat meat, no hypertension, diabetes, every day adhere to the morning exercise, the elderly in the community are envious of her good health. Half a month ago, Liu felt dizzy and weak in her right limb, and was persuaded by friends and relatives to go to the provincial Zhongshan Hospital for cerebrovascular screening. The results of the screening surprised even the doctors: Liu’s left internal carotid artery was severely stenosed (up to 90% stenosis), and she immediately underwent thrombolysis and stent intervention to relieve the safety risks. When she was discharged from the hospital, she said gratefully, “Fortunately, I had a cerebrovascular screening, you really saved my life!” On the surface, Liu’s blood pressure was normal and she was not diabetic, but in fact, her blood vessel blockage was caused by “another killer” – bad eating habits. Because of her love for meat and vegetables, she consumed too much high-protein and high-fat food, which led to excessive homocysteine in her blood, directly damaging the blood vessels and nerves, leading to serious blockage of blood vessels, and then dizziness and weakness. Once the disease breaks out, it can cause aphasia, hemiparesis and even loss of life in patients. Homocysteine is a recently discovered and very important indicator for predicting many diseases such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, malignant tumors, and Alzheimer’s disease. The elderly should eat a reasonable diet to prevent stroke, specifically three points: 1, drink more water, eat more vegetables and fruits and other foods rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber; 2, eat meat, eat fish should be removed from the soup, to avoid dissolved in the purine substances absorbed by the body; 3, eat less non-vegetarian oil, try to choose soybean oil, peanut oil or corn oil as cooking oil.
