Abdominal distention and ascites in patients after superovulation

In assisted reproductive technology, ovulation control is a pharmacological method to induce follicular development and egg maturation. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a common complication of ovulation promotion in assisted reproduction techniques, with an incidence of about 20%. OHSS is a serious complication of ovulation treatment, occurring 3-6 days after egg retrieval. The main symptoms are abdominal distension, gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, and in severe cases, ascites, hydrothorax, and oliguria; typical signs: increased abdominal circumference, rapid weight gain, and daily urine output of less than 400 ml. Patients with mild OHSS generally do not require hospitalization. The symptoms will disappear on their own after 2 weeks, and they can take care of themselves at home: 1, bed rest, moderate activity, because of the high blood clotting in patients with ohss, moderate activity can prevent thrombosis. 2, daily observation of their urine volume, maintain the daily urine volume of 1000-2000ml, try to eat more diuretic food such as winter melon, watermelon, barley, red beans, tomatoes, etc., eat more vitamin electrolyte-rich food such as grape juice, bananas, grapefruit, etc. 3, daily observation of the morning measurement of abdominal circumference, weight, such as rapid growth in a timely manner to the hospital. 4, diet: small number of meals (6-8 times / d), avoid cold food, into the liquid or semi-liquid diet, so that the patient’s stomach and intestines can accommodate without full or do not increase the gastrointestinal burden as the limit. At the same time, keep the surrounding environment clean, avoid malignant stimulation, and increase appetite. High protein, low salt diet: such as eggs, fish, meat, etc. Avoid flatulent food: such as soy products, milk and sweets. 5, emotional and moral aspects: many patients because they do not understand the relevant disease knowledge, fear of ohss will affect conception, affect the development of the fetus, excessive tension and anxiety, but aggravate the symptoms of ohss, the woman because of relaxation, correct understanding of the disease. 6, when mild ohss transformed into severe ohss, such as the above-mentioned thoracoabdominal fluid, oliguria, dyspnea, etc., especially after pregnancy, such symptoms should be promptly hospitalized.
