Lily and Zhi Mu Tang has the effects of tonifying deficiency and clearing heat (clearing away heat evil and tonifying the body’s deficiency), nourishing yin and moisturizing dryness (nourishing yin fluid and moisturizing dryness). It is mainly used in treating Lily Disease (a kind of disease manifested mainly by confusion of the mind), which results in injury of fluid after sweating by mistake, and heartburn and thirst. Lily and Zhimu Tang is from “The Essentials of the Golden Chamber” by Zhang Zhongjing, composed of Zhimu and Lily. This formula is mainly used in treating lily disease after sweat is mistakenly induced, resulting in injury of yin and fluids, dryness and heat, heartburn, thirst, and so on. This formula is often used in modern times to treat lily disease, insomnia, mammary gland disease and prolonged low fever. Adverse effects and contraindications of this formula are not known.
