At present, there are many schools of treatment for pediatric cerebral palsy in the international arena. Our center has developed a set of effective treatment plans by combining various modern rehabilitation techniques from abroad, traditional Chinese medicine and years of practical experience in cerebral palsy rehabilitation: according to the different conditions of the child’s disease type, condition and age, and with the help of the hospital’s advanced rehabilitation equipment and technology, a comprehensive rehabilitation program is conducted for the child. Based on the different conditions and ages of the children, we will conduct a comprehensive rehabilitation assessment and functional examination with the help of the advanced rehabilitation equipment and technology of the hospital; set realistic rehabilitation treatment goals; formulate individualized rehabilitation treatment plans; and provide ‘one-on-one’ rehabilitation training by professional rehabilitation therapists, including guidance and training for parents to conduct family rehabilitation training. We use a combination of Chinese and Western medical treatment and family rehabilitation to promote the overall development of the child’s body and mind.
Treatment techniques.
1.Traditional rehabilitation treatment techniques.
1)Exercise therapy to maintain joint mobility 2)Exercise therapy to enhance muscle strength 3)Exercise therapy to enhance muscle endurance 4)Exercise therapy to enhance muscle coordination 5)Exercise therapy to restore balance 6)Exercise therapy to restore walking function 7)Exercise therapy to enhance cardiopulmonary function
2.Modern rehabilitation therapy techniques.
1)British Bobath therapy 2)U.S. Rood therapy 3)U.S. PNF therapy 4)German Vojta therapy 5)Japanese Ueda method 6)Doman method 7)Hungarian guided education (Peto therapy) 8)Sensory integration training
3.Traditional rehabilitation techniques in Chinese medicine: 1)Acupuncture 2)Tui Na 3)Pulling 4)Sand scraping 5)Puncture 6)Chinese medicine fumigation
The most widely used are Bobath Therapy, Vojta Therapy, Ueda Method, Guided Education and Sensory Integration Training, each of which has created a unique rehabilitation system. We insist on “patient-centeredness”, open-mindedness, non-conformity to various treatment systems, and the use of various treatment techniques in an integrated and coordinated manner according to the actual situation of the child, complementing each other’s strengths, in order to develop an effective treatment plan to maximize the recovery of the child.
Assessment methods
1. Assessment of motor dysfunction In terms of development: the Yuanchengji-style child development checklist. For gross motor, the internationally widely used Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS), which is based on ICF theory, was used for grading and the Gross Motor Function Activity Scale (GMFM) was used for functional assessment. For fine motor, the hand function classification system (MACS) is used for grading and the fine motor function scale (FMFM) is used for functional assessment. Other tests include muscle tone measurement, joint mobility assessment, muscle strength assessment, balance function assessment, coordination function assessment, gait analysis, etc.
2.Specific sensory perception disorder assessment The child’s sensory integration ability development scale is used.
3.Impertinence assessment Learning ability test was selected from the adapted H-HTLA scale.
4. Assessment of language dysfunction The Chinese Communication Development Inventory (PCDI) was used for assessment, followed by the Fren-chay dysarthria assessment method.
5.Functional independence assessment
6.Pedal pressure testing system
