What are the signs of heat stroke?

Recently, many parts of the country have continued high temperature weather, heat stroke cases occur from time to time. To improve public awareness of heat stroke and the ability to save themselves, the National Health and Family Planning Commission has organized experts to prepare a Q&A on heat stroke prevention. 1.Why does heatstroke occur? In a hot environment, the body’s thermoregulatory function becomes impaired, heat production is greater than heat dissipation, and too much heat accumulates in the body, causing dysfunction of the circulatory system and central nervous system, resulting in a series of heat stroke symptoms. In addition, lack of sleep, excessive fatigue, mental stress, etc., are common triggers of heat stroke. 2.What are the symptoms after heat stroke? In a hot environment, if there is heavy sweating, thirst, dizziness, chest tightness, nausea, weakness of limbs and numbness, etc., the possibility of heat stroke should be considered. According to the severity of symptoms, heat stroke can be divided into mild heat stroke and severe heat stroke. Mild heat stroke: symptoms such as dizziness, headache, flushing, thirst, profuse sweating, general fatigue, palpitations, rapid pulse, inattention, uncoordinated movements, etc., and an increase in body temperature to 38.5 degrees or more. Severe heat stroke: three types including pyrexia, heat cramps and heat exhaustion, or a mixed type can occur. Severe heat stroke can lead to death. Pyrexia is mainly manifested as: hyperthermia due to dysfunction of the thermoregulatory center caused by high temperature, body temperature can be as high as 40 degrees or more, early sweating, followed by “no sweating”, accompanied by varying degrees of impaired consciousness. The main manifestation of heat cramps is: due to massive sweating, loss of water and salt, the body has electrolyte disorders, causing muscle cramps. It occurs in the muscles of the extremities, often symmetrically, sometimes with seizures and sometimes in remission. The patient is conscious and the body temperature is usually normal. The main manifestations of heat exhaustion are: rapid onset, mainly dizziness, headache, excessive sweating, thirst, nausea, vomiting, followed by wet and cold skin, decreased blood pressure, heart rhythm disturbance, mild dehydration, and slightly high or normal body temperature. 3.How can I prevent heatstroke in the summer time? Try to avoid prolonged activities and stay in the hot sun or high temperature environment. When you go out, it is best to wear light-colored, loose clothing and a wide-brimmed hat or umbrella. Keep ventilation indoors, with the help of sprinkling water on the ground, the use of electric fans, air conditioning to cool down, but the air conditioning temperature should not be too low. Working and living in an air-conditioned environment, you should take some time every day to go outdoors and do heat-resistant exercise. Drink more water and eat more fruits and vegetables. Get enough sleep and avoid direct blowing of air conditioners and electric fans when you sleep. Always keep anti-temperature medicine at home, such as ten drops of water, Ren Dan, wind oil essence, and use them correctly according to the instructions. Senior citizens, pregnant women, infants and children, and people with chronic diseases should go out as little as possible in hot weather, and seek medical attention if they are unwell. 4.How to give first aid in case of heat stroke? When the symptoms of heat stroke appear, first of all, you should quickly move from the high temperature environment to a cool and ventilated place to rest, and drink some cool drinks containing salt, such as light salt water, mung bean soup, etc.; you can apply cool oil, wind oil, or take Ren Dan, ten drops of water, patchouli, etc. at the temples; if the body temperature rises, you can use cool wet towels or ice packs to apply cold compresses to the head, armpits and thighs, or use 30% alcohol bath until the skin is red. In case of severe heat stroke symptoms, make sure to call the emergency number immediately and send the patient to the hospital in time for treatment.
