The cause of prostate hyperplasia is not completely clear, it is generally believed that it may be related to old age, functional testicles and other factors, and its treatment measures include watchful waiting, medication, surgery, other therapies and so on. 1.Etiology: (1) Old age: the older the age, the higher the incidence of prostatic hyperplasia, men over 45 years of age can develop prostatic hyperplasia of varying degrees, and most of them develop clinical symptoms after 50 years of age. (2) Functioning testes: the development of prostate is closely related to androgen, and 90% to 95% of the androgen in the prostate originates from the testes. 2. Treatment measures: (1) Watch and wait: If the symptoms are relatively mild and do not affect life and sleep, treatment is usually not needed; once the symptoms worsen, treatment should be started. (2) Drug treatment: α-adrenergic receptor blockers: such as terazosin, which reduces the smooth muscle tension of the prostate by blocking the α1 receptor and improves the urinary function; 5α reductase inhibitors: such as finasteride, which inhibits the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, thus leading to a reduction in the size of the prostate gland and improvement of urinary symptoms. (3) Surgery: Surgery can be chosen for those with severe symptoms, complications or obvious obstruction, and the most commonly used surgical method is transurethral resection of the prostate. (4) Other therapies: such as transurethral balloon dilatation, prostatic urethral stent, etc., for patients who cannot tolerate surgery. Patients with prostate hyperplasia should not take medication on their own, but should consult a doctor in a timely manner and standardize their treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
