Liver cancer metastasized to bone cancer, how bad is it?

Bone metastasis of liver cancer can seriously cause pathological fracture of spine and lead to paralysis, and can even threaten life. Bone metastasis occurs in many patients with advanced stage of liver cancer, in which tumor cells continuously destroy bone quality, causing local persistent pain or even pathological fracture. Common bone metastasis sites include spine, pelvis and ribs. Thoracolumbar spine is an easy site for liver cancer metastasis. Tumor cells can cause serious fracture damage, causing pathological fracture of vertebrae, or forming metastatic mass next to the vertebrae, resulting in spinal cord compression, and then spinal cord insufficiency or even paralysis, which is manifested as loss of sensation under the damaged plane of spinal cord, inability of lower limbs to move, urinary or fecal incontinence, and so on. Liver cancer patients with persistent low back pain should suspect the possibility of spinal metastasis, and once spinal cord injury or lower limb paralysis occurs, patients’ survival quality will be greatly reduced, and treatment will be very difficult, with extremely poor prognosis. It is suggested that patients should go to the hospital as early as possible and take corresponding measures in time to avoid spinal cord injury or paralysis and improve the prognosis and quality of life.
