What is the colon divided into?

The large intestine is the lower part of the alimentary canal, which can be divided into the cecum, appendix, colon, rectum and anal canal, and its main function is to absorb water and inorganic salts etc.

The large intestine is generally about 1.5m in length, the entire length around the jejunum and ileum, and is divided into the cecum, appendix, colon, rectum and anal canal. The function of the large intestine is mainly to absorb water, inorganic salts, vitamins, and to form feces from food residues and excrete them out of the body.

The cecum is the beginning of the large intestine, upward to continue the ascending colon, the lower end of a blind end, the lower end of the posterior medial wall extends outward a thin tube-like organ for the appendix. The colon lies between the cecum and the rectum and is subdivided into the ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, and sigmoid colon. The rectum starts from the sigmoid colon in front of the 3rd sacral vertebra and moves through the pelvic diaphragm into the anal canal.

In case of discomfort, prompt medical attention is recommended.
