What to do if your heart stops intermittently

Intermittent cardiac arrest may be caused by sinus block or high atrioventricular block, or it may be caused by a simple premature beat. First of all, it is necessary to identify the type of arrhythmia before choosing the appropriate treatment. It is recommended that the patient undergo an ambulatory electrocardiogram to assess the current condition. If it is only an occasional premature beat or just a premature beat, you can choose the appropriate antiarrhythmic drugs in combination with the different premature beats. In case of frequent ventricular premature beats, oral mexiletine or cortisone can be used. In case of frequent atrial premature beats, oral propafenone or metoprolol or bisoprolol can be used. In case of high atrioventricular block, a pacemaker should be installed if necessary. Patients are advised to further investigate the causes of this condition, such as anemia, ionic disorders or severe coronary vascular stenosis.
