Vocal fold swelling may not necessarily be cancerous, but may also be benign vocal fold diseases such as polyps, so the tissue of the swelling needs to be taken under laryngoscope and sent to pathology department for laboratory tests. If the tumor is benign, it usually needs to be removed surgically, and no other treatment is needed after the surgery. If the tumor is malignant, enhanced CT or MRI should be done to find out whether there is metastasis in the regional lymph nodes and to rule out distant metastasis, and to make specific clinical staging, according to which the treatment should be surgical resection or other treatments such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
