It is possible to get pregnant if your period is delayed after taking the pill. Although oral contraceptives are effective, they are not 100% effective, so some people may still be pregnant after taking the pill. Once your period has been delayed for more than 5 days, you can do an early morning pregnancy test using morning urine or have blood drawn for lab tests to find out if you are already pregnant. Birth control pills may cause menstrual disorders, so a delayed period is not always a sign of pregnancy. If you are not pregnant, wait and watch for 3-5 days. If you still don’t have your period, then treat it accordingly, preferably with an IUD.
