What’s with the chills?

Chills are a self-protection mechanism of the body, referring to the involuntary contraction of skeletal muscles throughout the body. The body increases heat production through the rapid and rhythmic contraction of skeletal muscles, which promotes the rise of body temperature. Inflammatory factors are released during fever, stimulating the hypothalamus temperature center, the body temperature set point will be adjusted upward, the body temperature is lower than the set target body temperature, it will feel cold, resulting in cold hands and feet, chills is a response that helps to raise the body temperature. When you have chills, first cover up the blanket to keep warm, drink warm water, and take antipyretics as prescribed by your doctor if your body temperature is ≥38.5℃. Muscle spasms during chills will enhance the body’s metabolism, so when there are chills and blue lips, it suggests that fever will follow, and it is recommended to consult a doctor in time. If there is any physical discomfort, it is recommended that the patient go to the hospital in a timely manner to avoid delaying the condition.
