Wu Tou Gui Zhi Tang is effective in dispersing cold and relieving pain. Wu Tou Gui Zhi Tang is composed of Prepared Chuan Wu, Gui Zhi, Bai Shao, Licorice, Ginger and Jujube. It has the efficacy of dispelling cold and relieving pain, dispersing cold and relieving surface pain. It can be used in treating cold hernia, pain in the abdomen, reversal of cold, unkindness of hands and feet, or pain in the body. In this formula, aconite can dispel wind and dampness, warm the menstruation and relieve pain; gui zhi sweats and relieves muscle (relieving evil qi from the surface of the skin) and warms the meridians; bai shao astringes yin and stops sweating (astringing yin fluid and reducing sweating) and relieves pain; ginger relieves the epidermis and disperses cold (removing the cold from the surface of the muscle); jujube enriches the qi and replenishes the middle; licorice combines with gui zhi, which is pungent-sweet and transforms the yang, while bai shao combines with it, which is sour-sweet and transforms the yin.
