Scaling will have a certain degree of pain, but most of them are tolerable range, individual periodontal disease or patients with dental defects in the scaling will feel the pain heavier. It is recommended to go to a regular hospital for examination and scaling. Scaling is not completely senseless, routinely there will be a slight pain, usually cold water stimulation caused by the sensitivity of the pain, this pain is acceptable to most patients. Patients with periodontal disease will be more sensitive during scaling due to resorption of the alveolar bone and excessive exposure of the tooth roots, which are usually close to the nerve. Those with dental defects, especially wedge-shaped defects in the cervical region, may experience pain and discomfort when scaling to that area. Those with a lower pain threshold will feel a little more pain than others, and can usually have their teeth cleaned under anesthesia to relieve the sensation of toothache.
