Lung abscess symptoms and treatment

Symptoms of lung abscess include cough, sputum, fever and malaise. Patients can be treated with antibiotics, expectorants, and other treatments, as well as interventional therapy. Lung abscess is a symptom of pus in the lungs, forming pustules, cavities, and so on. It starts with bacterial infection in the lungs, and with the development of the disease, it manifests as cough, high fever, etc. After that, there is necrosis in the center of the lesion, and after the necrotic tissue breaks down, the scope of the lesion becomes larger, and there is a possibility of dysphoria, poor appetite, and fatigue. It is recommended that patients choose antibiotic treatment after the diagnosis of lung abscess. The main causative organisms of lung abscess are anaerobic bacteria, and it is recommended that anaerobic bacteria be treated through medications such as clindamycin, metronidazole, and penicillin. When patients use antibiotics, they can also be treated by expectorant drugs, including acetylcysteine and aminoglutethimide. For patients in whom several of these treatments have been ineffective, bronchoscopic intervention is recommended, which allows for local administration of medications to further facilitate the drainage of sputum. It is recommended that patients presenting with lung abscess should seek timely treatment in the hospital. For patients with untimely treatment, there is a possibility of transformation into chronic lung abscess, which will require surgical treatment.
