What to do if you’re short of breath after a stent

Shortness of breath after stenting may be caused by heart failure, vascular disease, and re-stenosis of blood vessels. Patients may choose medication and re-implantation to relieve the treatment under the guidance of specialized doctors. 1. Heart failure: If shortness of breath occurs after stenting, it may be caused by the patient’s heart failure. It needs to be treated by diuretics, cardiotonic agents and other drugs to relieve the treatment, such as furosemide, digoxin and so on. 2. Vascular lesions: Shortness of breath can also be caused by lesions in tiny blood vessels. Stenting can primarily address the most severe stenosis, but these tiny vascular lesions cannot be stented or post-stenting shortness of breath may result. Drugs such as sodium ferulate injection and nicorandil can be considered to improve the microvascular lesions. 3. Re-stenosis of blood vessels: The blood vessels after stenting may be re-stenotic, resulting in shortness of breath. Patients need to repeat coronary angiography, and in severe cases, implantation of stents is needed to effectively relieve shortness of breath. Shortness of breath after stenting needs to go to the regular hospital as soon as possible to find the cause, timely consultation, under the guidance of professional doctors for treatment.
