Poria belongs to the water-inducing and dampness-expelling (to promote the flow of water to dispel dampness) medicine in the water-inducing and swelling-eliminating (to facilitate urination and eliminate edema) medicine, the family for the Polyporaceae fungi Poria’s dried fungus kernels. Poria can be used internally and externally. Poria has the effect of inducing diuresis and seepage of dampness, strengthening the spleen and tranquilizing the heart, and is long used in the treatment of edema and urinary deficiency, phlegm-drinking and palpitations (caused by phlegm-drinking and evil qi upturned to cause dizziness and palpitations), deficiency of the spleen with little food, loose stools (feces is not shaped), diarrhea, restlessness of the heart and mind, palpitations, insomnia, and so on.
