Should you have genetic testing after surgery for early stage lung adenocarcinoma?

Early stage lung adenocarcinoma usually requires genetic testing after surgery. Surgery is the preferred treatment for early stage lung adenocarcinoma, but recurrence or metastasis may still occur. The result of genetic testing can guide the use of targeted therapy and immunotherapy after recurrence, so that patients can receive more accurate individualized treatment, and it is helpful for preventive use of medication for certain dangerous situations. It is difficult to obtain pathological tissues for genetic testing after recurrence or metastasis in some lung cancer patients, so it is better to obtain pathological tissues for genetic testing in advance. If the pathological type is mostly invasive adenocarcinoma with multiple risk factors, it is better to do genetic testing in advance. However, if the pathological type is minimally invasive adenocarcinoma or adenocarcinoma in situ, which usually will not recur, you can decide whether to undergo genetic testing in conjunction with your doctor’s advice.
