Bupropion Effects and Side Effects

Bupropion (i.e., bupropion hydrochloride) works primarily as an antidepressant, with side effects such as agitation, insomnia, headache, and dry mouth, which occur differently from person to person. Bupropion is an antidepressant that is primarily indicated for the treatment of depression and may also be used to assist in smoking cessation. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to the product or similar ingredients, use of other bupropion-containing medications, abrupt withdrawal of alcohol or discontinuation of sedatives, seizure disorder, current or previous diagnosis of bulimia or anorexia, and cannot be combined with monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Common adverse reactions include agitation, insomnia, headache, dry mouth, nausea/vomiting, constipation, and tremor; occasional gastritis, hepatic function abnormalities, migraine, appetite and weight changes, delusions, tachycardia, hallucinations; and, rarely, anemia and ataxia.
