An interval of 12 hours is required between doses of azithromycin, which belongs to the macrolide class of drugs and can usually be taken orally 1 time/day or orally 2 times/day. Usually an interval of 24 hours is required for 1 time/day oral dose and at least 12 hours for oral dose before taking it. In adults with less severe mycoplasma infections or respiratory, skin, or urinary tract infections that are not accompanied by significant leukocyte elevation, 1 oral dose/day of azithromycin is sufficient. For severe infections, such as mycoplasma infections accompanied by bacterial infections or significantly elevated leukocyte or C-reactive protein values, azithromycin can be taken orally twice/day, but only if taken at least 12 hours apart. If children are taking azithromycin, it is recommended to take it 1-2 times daily at a strict 12-hour interval before taking it.
