Cataract surgery is a common treatment for cataract. The process of cataract surgery mainly includes preoperative eye disinfection, removal of cloudy lens, implantation of IOL and bandaging.
1. Pre-operative eye disinfection: Commonly used methods include antibiotic eye drops 3 days before surgery, tear duct irrigation before surgery to prevent postoperative infections, and disinfection of the conjunctival sac with povidone-iodine during surgery.
2. Cloudy lens removal: After disinfection, a corneal incision is made and the cloudy lens is removed by extracapsular extraction or emulsification cataract extraction. Ultrasonic emulsification cataract extraction involves keeping the anterior chamber full, shattering and emulsifying the patient’s cloudy lens, and sucking out the chalazion using a suction-irrigation system.
3. IOL implantation: The IOL is then implanted into the capsular bag, a watertight corneal incision is made, and finally the operated eye is bandaged.
It is recommended that patients after cataract surgery follow the doctor’s instructions for care, regular review, and timely consultation when discomfort occurs.
