What are the causes of pituitary tumors?

The causes of pituitary tumors may include hereditary factors, hypothalamic factors, pituitary factors, environmental factors, and target gland failure. 1. Genetic factors: such as multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN-1) gene mutation, pituitary tumor transcription factor (prop-1) over-activation and so on. 2. Hypothalamic factors: such as excessive growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), excessive corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), and activating mutations of certain hypothalamic hormone receptors. 3. Pituitary factors: such as mutations in certain signal transduction molecules (gsp, CREB), excessive growth factors such as fibroblast growth factor (FGF-2) and epidermal growth factor (EGF), activation of oncogenes and inactivation of oncogenes. 4. Environmental factors: such as radiotherapy. 5. Failure of target gland function: e.g. failure of thyroid gland, gonads, adrenal glands, etc. Pituitary tumor patients need to standardize treatment under the guidance of professional doctors.
