What is pentagastrin?

Pentagastrin is a diagnostic drug. It stimulates the secretion of gastric acid and is used for gastric secretion function tests and also for pancreatic function tests. If you need to use this medication, you need to use it under your doctor’s supervision. Pentagastrin is generally used for the examination of gastric acid secretion function and pancreatic function. It promotes the secretion of gastric acid, pepsin and endogenous factors, and its effect lasts for 10-40 minutes. Its use may cause adverse reactions in patients such as nausea, flushing, headache, dizziness, gastrointestinal cramps and hypotension. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to this drug and severe peptic ulcers. Use with caution in patients with pancreatic, hepatic or biliary tract diseases. It is usually administered as a subcutaneous or intramuscular injection at 6 μg/kg at a time, and should be used under the supervision of a doctor.
