Albinism does not usually lead directly to the death of the patient, and most people with albinism have a normal life expectancy and do not need to worry unduly.
Albinism is a congenital genetic disorder caused by mutations in different genes which result in defective melanin or melanosome biosynthesis. Due to the congenital gene mutation, patients are unable to show the normal color of the human body, and may have hypopigmentation or loss of pigmentation in the eyes, skin, hair and other parts of the body, which are mostly white or pink.
In general, albinism is incurable but does not affect normal life expectancy. However, due to the lack of melanin protection, patients with albinism are prone to sunburn, and patients need to be well protected on a daily basis so as to minimize skin damage.
Albinism currently lacks effective treatment, mainly to prevent the main, patients need to maintain a positive and optimistic attitude. It is recommended that patients consult a hospital in a timely manner and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
