Determining whether ascites or flatus is present is usually done through physical examination, imaging, and the patient’s self-perception. 1. Physical examination: The percussion examination of ascites has a mobile turbidity sound. In supine position, ascites collects in the lowest part of the abdominal cavity due to gravity, and the intestines float on the top, and the percussion will show the middle bulging sound and turbid sound on both sides; in side-lying position, ascites collects on one side, and there will be the turbid sound on the lower side and the bulging sound on the upper side. Flatulence of the percussion examination are drum tone, no turbidity. 2. Imaging examination: abdominal ultrasound can be used to detect and determine ascites; abdominal X-ray examination if abnormal translucent areas are found, generally suggesting flatulence. 3. Patient’s self-perception: If the patient feels more comfortable and the abdominal circumference decreases after exhaustion, it suggests that the possibility of flatulence is higher; if there is no feeling after exhaustion, then it may be ascites. Based on the above way can not be accurately judged, but also need to be combined with the characteristics of the history, other test results to make an accurate judgment, it is recommended to be clear under the guidance of the doctor.
