Conjunctivitis or dacryocystitis is the most common cause of eye discharge in children. Conjunctivitis is usually caused by the child’s lack of attention to eye hygiene, randomly rubbing the eyes with dirty hands, resulting in infection of the conjunctival tissues, etc. Under the stimulation of inflammation, the child may experience conjunctival congestion, increased eye discharge and other discomforts. Children can be treated with antibiotic eye drops, such as tobramycin eye drops and levofloxacin eye drops, to control inflammation and relieve eye discomfort. Dacryocystitis is mostly caused by the narrowing and obstruction of the tear ducts due to congenital developmental abnormalities, in which the tears secreted by the eyes are stagnant in the lacrimal sacs and can’t be discharged smoothly, and then secondary to bacterial infections, and the pus may flow from the corners of the eyes of the children by pressing on the lacrimal sac area. Children can be treated with antibiotic eye drops, such as tobramycin eye drops, to control inflammation and relieve eye discomfort. It is recommended that children with significant increase in eye discharge should seek prompt medical attention to assess their condition and treat them as directed by their doctor.
