The purpose of EEG is to clarify the diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, when routine EEG is performed on patients taking antiepileptic drugs, drugs should not normally be reduced or discontinued to avoid leading to recurrence of the condition and possible epileptic persistence. Special cases, such as when performing pre-surgical epileptic source localization, require drug reduction or even drug discontinuation for the purpose of obtaining a seizure-phase EEG, and is not a routine examination. Therefore, it is important to inform the doctor in detail about the patient’s current medication and consult the doctor about the need to stop the medication before the EEG is performed, and never stop the medication on your own.
